Winnie, III, age 68, of Lexington, South Carolina, and formerly of Great Bend, Pennsylvania, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024. He was born on April 15, 1955 in Binghamton, New York to Carol Cornelius and Theodore M. Winnie, Jr. Ted worked and volunteered in fire service at Great Bend Hose Company for over 30 years and was a fire chief for 14 years. He also worked for Anitec Image for 24 years and SC DJJ for 15 years. He loved spending time with his family and was a devoted Papa. He enjoyed doing yardwork, especially tending to his roses. Why does it cost so much to post an obituary? Publishing an obituary in the newspaper is expensive because of the limited space papers have. Newspapers value every inch of each page, so they must charge to use that limited space for an obituary.

Many funeral homes publish obituaries on their websites. These can usually be located with a Google search on the person's name. Local genealogical and historical societies, public libraries, and some newspaper publishers maintain clipping files of obituaries.
Don't tell the family that they'll get over their grief with time. Don't tell a husband or wife that they'll meet someone else. Avoid mentioning any negative interactions that you had with the deceased. Never mention it if a family member isn't crying or doesn't seem sad.
Obituaries and death notices are not required—but notices to creditors may be. You are under no legal obligation to take out a death notice or obituary.
